AI Security

Evaluate the security of AI systems and the way employees use them. Separate controls for an AI application from security products that use AI internally.

Plan your evaluation

Write down the workflow, systems, operating owner, and evidence needed to make your decision. Use the same scope for every supplier, and ask which parts of the demonstration are included in the proposed package.

AI use and data boundaries

Inventory approved applications, model endpoints, users, and sensitive information. Decide which uses require approval and how exceptions are reviewed.

AI application safeguards

Evaluate input handling, retrieval permissions, tool access, and output handling as one workflow. Include a case where the system must refuse or escalate an action.

Testing and monitoring

Define representative misuse scenarios, retain reproducible test cases, and assign an owner for reviewing changes after models, prompts, or connected tools are updated.

Questions to ask

  1. Are we securing employee AI use, an application we build, or both?
  2. What can the model retrieve or act on through connected tools?
  3. How will we test boundaries again after an application change?
