Web Security

Protect browsing activity and access to web resources. Separate controls for users accessing the web from protection for web applications that your organization publishes.

Plan your evaluation

Write down the workflow, systems, operating owner, and evidence needed to make your decision. Use the same scope for every supplier, and ask which parts of the demonstration are included in the proposed package.

User browsing controls

Define access policies for devices, remote users, and browsers. Check exceptions, user feedback, and the handling of destinations needed for legitimate work.

Inspection and isolation

Identify where requests, downloads, and sessions are inspected or isolated. Review compatibility, privacy requirements, and behavior when inspection is unavailable.

Published application boundaries

If the requirement is to protect an application you operate, map that work to application testing, application-layer controls, and the team that owns the service.

Questions to ask

  1. Are we protecting browsing users, published applications, or both?
  2. Which devices and off-network users receive the policy?
  3. What happens when a legitimate site or application is blocked?
